About 800-CEO-READ
For over 25 years, 800-CEO-READ has focused exclusively on business books and ideas. We are experts at book logistics (getting your books where they need to be, when they need to be there), we write about business books at our blog, we host events with business authors, and we publish inspiring manifestos by great thinkers from around the world at our site ChangeThis.com.
The books that we write about or offer for promotional purposes have been generously donated by the publisher, publicist, or author of the book.
Why You Will Love Us
In the past ten years, we have seen the emergence of online bookstores that specialize in convenience and economy. You can go online, search for a book, click a button, and that book will show up at your address in a few days. Mega-discounters have also set their sights on the book market; you can toss a best seller into your cart while shopping for groceries. In addition to convenience, both offer books at a price well below suggested retail.
While you may not need help purchasing a single copy of a recent best seller—lots of places make that really easy and very economical—, we offer a different kind of book buying experience.
Our book, blog, newsletter, and web sites offer unparalleled business book information that will help you decide which book to buy, which book will provide an answer to your business problem.
Orders of over 10 books required for events, workshops and meetings are a whole different logistical beast from a single copy order. You may need 100 books to arrive by a certain date. Or you may need 1000 books to arrive at multiple locations over the course of two months. You may even wish to send a letter with each book, or to have every copy signed by the author, or to have an additional page bound directly into them.
One of our experienced customer service team will manage your order personally: Any questions? Just call. We’ll get your books where they need to be, when and how you need them.
That’s why we’re here, that’s why we’re different, and that’s why you will love us.
Read some of our short bios below to learn more about who makes this incredible machine tick.
Carol Grossmeyer: Carol was surprised to wake up one morning and find herself owner and CEO of 800-CEO-READ. After 30 years of bookselling along side the late David Schwartz (including a bookshop romance, marriage and many great bottles of Bordeaux) Carol carried the Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops to their sad end. Luckily, 800-CEO-READ, the Schwartz Bookshops’ sister company, is still going strong, helmed by Carol’s longtime friend and now business partner, Jack Covert.
While spending her days communicating with banks, accountants and attorneys can be stimulating in it’s own way, Carol’s true passions lie in great books, foreign films, good food and good company. And that is exactly what she hopes to sustain and grow 800-CEO-READ as—a good company.
Jack Covert: Jack is the founder of and president of 800-CEO-READ, now an independent company, but longtime partner of the Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops. Hired twenty-five years ago by the late David Schwartz to promote business and computer books to the Milwaukee business community, Jack used his considerable sales skills and innate business acumen to grow that 3-shelf business section into a 7 million dollar specialty business book retailer. Jack is also co-author of The 100 Best Business Books of All Time, published in 2009 by Portfolio.
Jon Mueller: Jon started at 8cr in 2007 after 10 years in multimedia publishing. He has handled 8cr's sales, events, and project management, as well as writing for the Daily Blog. An English major who went on to get an MBA, 8cr provides the ideal place for Jon to listen to endless stories and ideas, which in turn helps him better tell his own. Jon became general manager of the company in 2009. The card he holds in his photo shows the ISBN of one of his favorite books. To talk to him about what the book is, click on his name, or call x210.
Aaron Schleicher: Aaron was the third Schleicher brother to join the 8CR team in 2004. Aaron is the author services specialist at 8CR, so if you write or publish books, you should get to know him better. When he's not orchestrating bulk book sales for 8CR, Aaron spends most of his time writing, recording, and performing music. If you'd like talk to talk to Aaron about how we can help you move quantities of books around the world, or what is in rotation on his musical playlist, contact him by clicking on his name, or call x204.
Roy Normington: Roy started working for the Harry W. Schwartz Bookstores in downtown Milwaukee after graduating with a major in Communications and a minor in Writing. Since 1994, Roy has stayed with the corporate sales division of the bookstores through many name changes and alterations until 8CR was born. In addition to customer service he gets to hone his writing skills through book reviews for Jack Covert Selects and periodic blog entries. At the chagrin of Roy's co-workers; he is a continual cornucopia for all things trivial. But he doesn't make his customer service matters trivial. And if you don't believe that, just ask his mom. Contact Roy by clicking on his name, or call x205.
Meg Bacik: Many many moons ago, too many to recall right now, Meg started at 800-CEO-Read doing accounting. A very strange position for her to start in as she and Math had a rocky past together. She was loved by all so she was moved to a position where more of the world could love her too, customer service. In that time she has traveled the world, seen a lot of live music, and read her fair share of books, mostly non-fiction. Her motto, the sadder the book the better the book. She resides in customer service quite happily with her Royfriend. Contact Meg by clicking on her name, or call x206.
Mel Koenig: Mel started with Harry W Schwartz Bookshops in the business office doing data entry in 1999. Having a fashion design background, accounting was the last place she thought she'd end up. But she actually finds the accounting position fun and somewhat creative; and what creativity it lacks is more than made up for by the creative people of 8cr. Mel would be happy to help you with moving money from our pile to yours, or from your pile to ours, in style. Contact Mel by clicking on her name, or call x125.
Sally Haldorson: Sally has been employed at 800-CEO-READ for nearly 12 years working in just about every position in the company: customer service, accounting, management. But for the past 5 years she has actually put her Master's Degree in Creative Writing to use working in the marketing department editing ChangeThis, Jack Covert Selects, and anything else that needs a good polishing. She is the writer and editor of the Keen Thinker and contributes writing for the company's annual review of books, the blog, Twitter and Facebook. Her greatest professional accomplishment was helping Jack and Todd craft The 100 Best Business Books of All Time.
Dylan Schleicher: Dylan was the second Schleicher brother to become an 800-CEO-READista (after Ryan, and later joined by Aaron). He began in shipping and receiving in January of 2003, eventually moved to customer service and now inhabits a creative nebula of 8cr’s marketing as the managing editor of ChangeThis, curator of inBubbleWrap, and resident illustrator. If you have any questions about any of the above, you can contact him by clicking on his name or at x233.
